Saturday Night’s alright!
As entries go live for the 2015 Petzl Night Trail Wales, Saturday the 10th of October promises to be a night to remember at Coed y Brenin. With a format of laps over 3 hours of racing, solo runners and teams of three will attempt to cover as much distance as possible in the allocated start / finish time of 6-9pm.
With almost 500 runners expected to be there on the night, the race arena will be a sea of runners, lights and entertainment. Runners and supporters will be kept up to date with race commentary and leader board style updates for the leading men, women and teams.
Race organiser Matt Ward is promising a runnable 3-4km route, not too technical, with enough elevation to sort out the runners, commenting:
“Imagine a race that starts in the dusk of an Autumn Saturday evening, and ends in full darkness. We will have a real party atmosphere, with a DJ, bar, hot food and a race arena lit up with flood lights. Head torches are mandatory kit for the race and we expect there to be a sea of lights winding their way through the trails throughout the evening.”
In the team format, each team will have one runner on the course at any one time, with a pit area for handovers, and the simple rule that all team members must complete at least one lap. After this it will be up to all runners to see just how far they can go in those 3 hours. Matt continues:
“It should be really exciting, and very different to your everyday race format. We will have one large feed station, where runners can refuel on the run, close to that pit area, with the stipulation that no runners receive external assistance once the race is live. Race MC Steve Edwards will keep everyone informed on race positions and how many laps individuals and teams have completed.
“Our headline sponsors Petzl will be there too with branding and race support, and are equally excited about the race. We expect to announce additional attractions over the coming months and will unveil the route in September.”
Night Trail Wales is now one of four trail running events from Run. Coed y Brenin, across the year, adding to the established Trail Marathon Wales, Winter Trail Wales and new for 2016 Trail Wales 10k in September next year.
