Run Coed y Brenin announce COVID-19 2020 event implications
As you will hopefully be aware we are today in completely new territory for all events in the UK. At Run Coed y Brenin our runners are at the centre of our thoughts when we plan races and events in terms of information, safety and overall experience.
The situation surrounding the COVID-19 virus is unprecedented in our lifetime and our decisions as event organisers in the coming weeks and months will always have your health, and that of our spectators, volunteers and event staff as an absolute priority.
In light of current developments in the UK, the uncertainty of where we will be in this crisis over the next 6-8 weeks, we have taken the incredibly difficult decisions to postpone the 2020 Goldrush Trail and Salomon Trail Marathon Wales events and defer all entrants to date to the 2021 races, with all benefits of this year’s events and at no extra cost to the runner.
In the current climate in the UK it’s clear that the Goldrush Trail could not go ahead as planned in a little over 4 weeks time, especially as today we have also had the news that the Visitor Centre at Coed y Brenin has been closed until further notice. However, the decision on the Trail Marathon was one that has caused much pain.
We realise that many events are now postponing to later in the year, primarily September and October, and there are simply no free dates in these months that could work should we have wished to move the races to later in 2020. We also feel that the pressure that could be placed on emergency services, contractors, suppliers, event staff and volunteers will be immense at this time, so we feel that we don’t want to add to this.
Equally we have a responsibility to our suppliers and sponsors and we are currently at the stage where we need to be placing orders and make decisions on event equipment and runners’ benefits with such things as t-shirts, prizes, coasters, socks etc. We are a small event organisation and cancellation at a late date after we have ordered these 2020 specific items would place us in financial ruin.
We will make a decision on the Trail 10k Wales race scheduled for September 6th 2020 in the next month, as a clearer picture unfolds.
Due to the incredible congestion now in October with the movement of many big city marathons and other events the Night Trail Wales race will not go ahead in 2020.
For the Goldrush and Trail Marathon events all runners entered will be deferred to the 2021 events. Your entry will be transferred automatically so we do not envisage you needing to re-register. If there is any additional information we need, we will be in touch asap. The new dates for the 2021 race will be published very soon and will likely be the corresponding weekend dates next year which are Saturday April 17thfor the Goldrush and Saturday June 19th for the Trail Marathon.
Equally we will allow entry transfers to another runner should you be unable to make the date in 2021.
How do I secure my entry in the re-scheduled event?
You do not need to do anything, your entry will be automatically deferred.
How do I transfer my entry to another runner if I am unable to attend the re-scheduled event?
This will be conducted through our online entry transfer system, with details to follow.
Can I have a refund on my race entry instead?
Our terms and conditions clearly state that runners will not be entitled to a refund if an event is cancelled because of a circumstance beyond the reasonable control of the organisers, so sadly we are not in a position to offer refunds. We think that our offering of a deferral is a fair alternative option to runners, especially as our costs of event delivery that we have already spent in 2020 can no longer be recovered by us
What happens to any additional purchases I made with my race entry?
All hoodie, Welcome Party tickets and photo purchases will be automatically deferred along with your entry.
Thanks as ever for your incredible support at this time
