Nothing Lasts Forever…

After half a decade of creative retailing and innovative trail running shoe demo and hire initiatives, the Run Coed y Brenin trail running shop will close its doors at the end of February 2020.

A tough independent retailing landscape has emerged over the last 12-18 months in the UK and slowing in sales over 2019 have left the small independent store with no option but to cease trading.

Owner Matt Ward explains further:

Run Coed y Brenin’s destination store appeal, with fantastic customer service and being located at one of the UK’s most attractive trail running locations was a successful recipe for over 5 years. But, the changing of consumers buying habits has become apparent in the last year and after examining many, many options we have decided that it’s time to close the store.

“It has probably been the single-most difficult – and at times upsetting – decision I have had to make in business. The brilliant staff in the shop have been fantastic over the last few years, definitely the beating-heart of this small business, they are much-loved by myself and the customers alike, and I will be forever indebted to them for their commitment to the shop.

“John Taylor and the Natural Resources Wales team have been fantastic too. They have continually supported us in our aims to create something very different here in Wales. We worked with the recreation team at Coed y Brenin to input on trails, from the Sarn Helen to the wonderful Goldrush, and worked together to promote the usage of this fabulous facility.

“Equally, the team at Salomon sales and marketing have been superb. Lots of happy customers of the brand over the years will vouch that they are the manufacturers and suppliers of some of the best trail running products on the market, and I am sure the brand will continue to grow in coming years.

To all of our other great suppliers, including Suunto, Torq, Petzl, Stance and Buff, and for all of the wonderful customers who have supported the shop over the year – I am extremely grateful for the support.

“I’d like to think we leave the trail running community in the area and across the UK in a better place than when we started back in 2014. My aim from the start was to make a difference, inspire, innovate and support trail runners with great products, advice and a super location to practice the sport.

“Nothing lasts forever as they say and through the shop we have made some life-long friends and have had so much fun along the way – after all, isn’t that what life is all about?!”

Run Coed y Brenin’s highly-successful race events, Thursday night runs, ladies group runs and the successful junior academi will remain active, and you can keep in touch with everything that is going on at Run Coed y Brenin via the website and on social media @runcoedybrenin
