2017 – Another record-breaking year at Run. Coed y Brenin
As we look back on 2017 at Coed y Brenin, it has once again been another year of records!
Over 1000 social and night run participants took to these magnificent trails managed by Natural Resources Wales in the heart of Snowdonia. Whether on Thursday nights, Christmas social runs or trail workshops, these free events are an integral part of what we do.
Our new junior trail running club academi Coed y Brenin started in January and across the year we have had Welsh Athletics sessions, relays, BBQ nights, time trials and lots of fun on Saturday mornings. The highlight of the year was seeing the academi mixed team (under 16 years) take third overall and win the mixed category at the Petzl Night Trail Wales – against 75 teams!
Our Trail School courses also saw over 200 runners come to the centre to extend their trail running knowledge in Navigation, Beginner Trail Workshops, technique workshops on uphill and downhill running, and to learn from some of the UK’s best ultra runners at the first ever Ultra Weekend.
Record numbers of participants once again flocked to events in 2017. Over 2500 runners registered for our races. From the Winter Trail in January to the Night Trail in October, runners from as far a field as Israel and Canada made the journey to Wales to hit the trails and leave with stories to tell.
The staff and resources at Coed y Brenin visitor centre have also been fantastic in 2017 and we are very grateful to Natural Resouces Wales for allowing us to continue to host our offerings at this gem in the Welsh outdoor recreation world.
Our sponsors have been amazingly supportive as ever, and with their generous backing our events and wonderful trail running shop are all made possible through their continued support.
Finally, the year would simply not have been possible without the hundreds of volunteers, staff, helpers, supporters and friends that make up our Run Coed y Brenin family, these people are incredible!
Diolch o galon and here’s to a happy and healthy year of trail running in 2018!
